Waterfowl Habitat is our largest program. One aspect of our habitat work is setting up nest boxes
​With a variety of Ducks there is a variety of habitat and nesting structures.

 Artifical Nest Struture Research
​(Redhead)
Prior to the historical flood of 1983 Utah was home to the worlds largest breeding population of Redhead ducks. 
Wasatch Wigeons Association is currently engaged in a three year research project starting in 2021 across three of Utah's waterfowl management area (WMA).  This project is to determine if redhead or other diver ducks will use artificial nesting platforms.  If successful Wasatch Wigeons will be adding redhead platforms to our already successful nest box program.
 It is our hope  research in redhead nesting and other efforts in restoring habitat can some day increase the number of breeding redhead's in Utah.

Education

In the Classroom

One of Wasatch Wigeons goals is to pass our knowledge and love of wetlands and waterfowl to the next generation. 
With the new excitement of setting up a nest box cams in some of our nest structure we can show the next generation the work and sacrifice a mother hen goes through to watch over her eggs and watch as those eggs become ducklings leaving the nest on there own. 
 Viewed right in the classroom or the comforts of their homes.

Our own backyard

The nest we plan on using to start this project will be right in our own backyard of the Ogden Nature Center (ONC). 
We have been working for awhile now to figure out the details of this plan and partner with ONC to make this one of the most educational parts of our programs.
